:: IGBINEDION EDUCATION CENTRE

It is true that the environment in which a child learns has a lot of impact upon his output. But the founder owners of the multi-million naira Igbinedion Education Centre do not seem to place emphasis on this aspect of their institution. Rather it is the human content and the knowledge acquired from there that are principal in their calculation. The Deputy Chairman, Board of Governors of the Centre, Lady Cherry Igbinedion has emphasised that the "Centre is much more than an investment in new buildings, sprawling ornamental grounds or the most scientifically advanced laboratories. It is an investment in the students and teachers and the chances they have to affect one another in ways that will echo for the rest of their lives."

In a similar tone, Chief Igbinedion himself also spoke on the human factor of the Centre. The issue, he noted, was not the expensive buildings of the institution or the public support the centre was receiving. What was important and remains the great hidden secret of the centre is the human content - the students.

We have the most beautiful, exciting and dynamic young people that you can find anywhere in the world. They are the leaders of the future. They will go out and transform the 21st Century, help to make Nigeria and the world a better place. They will uphold with dignity the motto of Igbinedion Education Centre which is "Triumph Through Knowledge".

One is tempted to conclude this chapter on the Igbinedion Education Centre with yet another quotation relevant to the topic. It has been noted that in the Montessori philosophy, education is expected to "serve and even change mankind with every child carrying with him into adulthood a global responsibility. In like manner, from all indications, the Igbinedion Education Centre has all it takes to "stretch outwards and enrich the community of Benin City and beyond". 14 Indeed it has taken the first steps in this direction.
